AV Dental is founded by Dr Andrew Wang and Dr Vivien Lum in September 2013. Their vision of dentistry is one of uncompromising quality but still accessible for all. This concept stems from the idea that dentistry is not a business but a health service. To achieve this vision, our clinic emphasizes on modern equipment and research backed techniques and materials. Our facilities and equipment are regularly maintained and sterilized beyond industry standards. At AV dental, our clinicians constantly undergo further education to keep abreast with the most contemporary treatments available in dentistry. For dentistry to be accessible, AV Dental strives to provide affordable dentistry. This is achieved by automating the management and non clinician duties together through the use of computer technology. The elimination of managerial roles allows us to have permanently reduced fees that are passed to our patients. Our treatment methods are also constantly evolving to be more efficient; thereby reducing unnecessary wastage that in turns reduces cost for our patients and our impact on the environment.

PREVENTATIVE THERAPY Dental plaque and calculus cause gum diseases and dental decay. At AV Dental, we have multiple strategies to prevent pathological bacteria from doing harm to your teeth and gums. For example, scaling and cleaning, and fissure sealant. By employing these techniques, one can readily prevent the progression of disease and avoid costly invasive treatments in the future.

COMPOSITE RESTORATIONS Somethings are best kept secret and that goes for teeth fillings too. Composite restorations make dental work undetectable, unlike amalgam restorations that discolor teeth and is readily visible. Composite restorations are adhesive which allows the restoration to stay better and allows the cavity size to be much smaller. At AV Dental you can be assured we only use composite restorative material.

ROOT CANAL THERAPY (ENDODONTIC THERAPY) Root canal therapy is an effective alternative to having your tooth out. It reverses the problem of an infected and necrotic pulp which can usually cause terrible pain and further infections in the bone. Root canal therapy involves 3 steps - cleaning, shaping, and filling (obturation).

$﷯ - CROWNS Crowns are necessary when a large amount of tooth structure has been damaged by trauma or dental caries. They are made of full porcelain or porcelain fused over metal and cover the entire tooth surface. They are strongly recommended for endodontically (root canal treated) teeth to prevent vertical root fracture.$

BRIDGES Bridges replace a missing tooth by "bridging" over the open space. A bridge consists of two or more crowns on natural teeth that are attached to an artificial tooth called the pontic which replaces the missing tooth. Bridges can only be performed on healthy mouths.

VENEERS Veneers are thin porcelain shells that can change the color as well as shape of natural teeth to enhance a smile. They are resistant to stains and will remain white for the lifespan of the veneer. Owing to their minimal preparation, they are less intrusive of tooth structure than other forms of cosmetic work. Veneers can only be performed on healthy mouths.

FULL MOUTH REHABILITATION Full mouth rehabilitation is the recreation of every tooth in the mouth. This is done in cases of severely broken, chipped, corroded, and/or worn teeth.

TEETH WHITENING

Teeth whitening is an effective way to brighten natural teeth that are discolored or stained by aging or chemical damage. This is done by bleaching the teeth; thereby oxidizing pigments in the stain to colorless compounds. Teeth whitening can only be performed on healthy mouths.

DENTURES Dentures are useful at replacing wide edentulous (toothless) areas of the mouth. It is a good idea to get dentures when the loss of multiple teeth makes chewing difficult. They can be either made entirely of acrylic or with a combination of strong cobalt-chromium alloy. Dentures can only be performed on healthy mouths.

IMPLANTS Implants replace teeth in their natural positions with titanium screws. These implants can then support crowns/bridges. They are the preferred method of tooth replacement available today. At AV Dental, we are capable of implementing an implant from start to finish.

$﷯ - MOUTHGUARDS Mouthguards are rigid plastic forms covering the teeth and most of the gums in order to protect them from trauma during sporting or risky activities. They work by distributing incoming forces evenly across the entire mouth as opposite to it being concentrated in a particular small region. This greatly reduces the likelihood of tooth or bony fracture.$

Dr Andrew Wang graduated from the University of Melbourne. After working in Victoria, he relocated to Perth servicing the dental needs of Wanneroo since 2011.

Dr Vivien Lum graduated from the University of Melbourne. Besides working at AV Dental, she also spends some of her time doing research at the University of Western Australia.

Louise Sloan joined AV Dental in Dec 2013. She is a talented dental nurse complete with qualifications Cert IV Dental Assisting from Dental Nursing Australia (Belmont).

Grace Sloan joined AV Dental in Jan 2014 to work along side her sister. She attained her Cert IV Dental Assisting from Dental Nursing Australia (Belmont).

Rebecca is a postgraduate student at the University of Western Australia enrolled in the new Doctor of Dental Medicine (DMD). She also has a Bachelor in Science majoring in genetics and pharmacology.
